Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a branch of yoga from which other types of yoga aimed at working with the body originate.

Hatha helps develop joint mobility, aligns the spine and tones the muscles of the body.
Doing asanas in Hatha Yoga strengthens the muscles of the legs, shoulders, arms, abdomen and back muscles so the whole body is completely worked out. Joints become more mobile, coordination of movement is improved and overall endurance increases.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga has a specific sequence of asanas. Asanas are performed one after another in a strict order, they are not skipped or added. The sequence is mastered gradually, from simple to complex, thus ensuring safety.

The transitions from one asana to another are done with the help of vinyasas. These are breath-synchronised movements that link asanas to each other, creating a continuous flow.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga includes simple, basic, safe exercises aimed at alignment and stretching of the spine, the formation of proper breathing and the improvement of the joints. In restorative yoga classes the focus is on stretching and softly working the muscles around the spine to improve its mobility and recovery.

Restorative yoga asanas activate the blood supply to the back muscles which with regular practice allows you to alleviate spinal problems.

Sadhu Nails practice

This is a little bit extreme but a really powerful practice from Indian sadhu gurus. It's a powerful tool to get to the root of your pain and shift your reaction to it by surrendering to it. It helps to rid muscle blocks and gives you the power to work with unexpressed emotions lying deep inside. Also sadhu nails practice stimulates the thousands of nerves in our feet that are directly related to the organs and different parts of our body.

Acupressure stimulation of these points helps to align energy flows in these organs, helping them to function better.

Pranayama

Breathing is the only automatic function of our body that is subject to conscious control, in contrast to the heartbeat, digestion, etc. Breathing is between the physical and mental categories of human, therefore it is the key to inner peace.

Yogic breathing techniques are an excellent tool for dealing with stress, managing your condition and improving oxygen saturation in the blood.

Flow Yoga

This continuous flow of movement and breath generates a meditative state, encouraging practitioners to let go of thought and focus on experience of the present moment. In flow yoga, each movement into or out of a posture is timed with an inhalation or an exhalation in a choreographed sequence.

My name is Elena Kafanova-Harris. I'm a certified yoga teacher and a yoga practitioner with long experience. I started practising yoga in 1997 and entered a deeper immersion into practice in 2012 when I was introduced to Iyengar yoga.

I'm focusing on researching embodiment practices and ways to improve our consciousness and our relationship with the planet. I have long experience of studying with many well-respected yoga teachers around the world.
I have completed my YTT 200 with the Yoga Alliance.
I studied yoga in India with lineage holder of Ashtanga yoga Sharath Jois and his mother Saraswati Jois.
In 2021 I completed ashtanga yoga teacher training with David Swenson.
I do not stop learning, developing and exploring new facets and methods of working with our first and most important home: the body.
Now I teach different types of yoga: ashtanga yoga, hatha yoga, restorative yoga. From time to time I also teach the fundamentals of Contortion, Pranayama breathing techniques, Yoga Nidra, and Sadhu Nails practice. I offer each of these as group classes and on a 1-to-1 basis.

bout me

Now

After 2 years of practicing Iyengar yoga, I discovered Ashtanga yoga and it completely changed whole my life. Until that time I was a practising lawyer but I gradually I gave up my career and decided to follow my heart. Yoga also brought me to the UK as I met my British husband while studying Ashtanga in India.
